LE @ KATONG TOASTMASTERS CLUB 21 AUGUST 2025

 RHETORICAL DEVICE OF THE MONTH

METAPHOR

A metaphor is a figure of speech that makes a direct, non-literal comparison between two

unlikely things by stating that one thing is another, without using "like" or "as".

Metaphors create vivid imagery and add depth to writing and speech by highlighting

a shared characteristic.

For example, "The mind is an ocean." suggests vastness and mystery, while

"He's a coach potato." implies laziness and inactivity.
